Brentwood Residence
HOME RENOVATION | FURNISHING SELECTION
THE BRIEF
Fun fact, this home was featured in House Beautiful 1945 and Home & Gardens 1947! Despite multiple renovations over the years, the formal living room still looked almost exactly as it did back in 1945 when the homeowners, a young professional couple, brought us on board. Our goal was to unify the renovated areas with the original rooms and give the house a new lease on life. The home has a sweet, farmhouse feel we wanted to honor, while adding fresh texture and color with a bohemian, earthy vibe.
The formal living room was wrapped in original dark wood trim and paneling which left the space feeling small and lifeless. Our plan included removing the paneling and raising the ceiling. We salvaged the existing wood beams and sandblasted them to reveal their natural color and grain. Then we refinished the existing floors throughout the home and left them a light natural tone. We even recreated the original chevron fireplace overmantle design and added custom built ins to flank the fireplace. New lighting fixtures, furnishings, and accessories give the space an elevated yet livable feeling. In the primary bedroom, we drenched the walls and ceiling in a rich terracotta paint and added custom linen drapes to complement the soft earthy tones of the new furnishings and accessories.
